Robert was the most generous of souls, not least in his dealings with the homeless, the lost, and the mad. He gave help and hope in all directions: not only to the loveable derelicts like Snowy and Diogenes but also the dangerous outcasts who nobody else would tolerate. His courage and kindness re-defined the notion of charity. I shall always remember him for his outstanding contributions to art - and human decency.
